Walter (Walt) Greene (1898-1962) was a prolific Burke County photographer from the late 1920’s through the 1950’s. His work provides a collage of everyday life in Burke County during a period of three decades. Walt Greene created a large volume of images covering everything from individual and family portraits to sports, weddings, schoolchildren, local businesses, special events and ordinary occasions. He captured us at work, at play, with our families , coworkers and friends. The list goes on. His camera recorded it all!

This exhibit is just a small portion of Greene’s work. This was made possible by John T. Oxford Jr. who saved and stored hundreds of his photographs. Others purchased and organized more than 26 boxes of old negatives and proofs that once belonged to Walt Greene. This process has taken over three years.

This exhibit would not be possible without the efforts and contributions of Dorothy K. Ervin, Wayne W. Hitt and the Greene family.
